Did you hear the news?
Art in the Wilds has been named by Sunshine Artist Magazine as one of 11 must-attend shows for artists and craftspeople in the US in 2018!
Interested in Applying?
Here is what you should know to get started.
Art in the Wilds is a juried show. We are looking for quality fine art and fine craft, especially work that highlights the best of our region. We work to provide a balanced show with a variety of media (we don't accept food/drink artisans at this point). Artists with a wide range of price points are especially successful.
Show Dates: Saturday, June 22 from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 10 AM until 4 PM. Show goes on rain or shine and artists will be required to stay fully set up for the whole time. Tear-down begins at 4:00 on Sunday.
Venue: Outdoors in shady Evergreen Park on Route 66 which is also Fraley Street just south of the business district.
Set-Up: Friday, June 21 from 1 PM until 9 PM and Saturday from 7 AM until 9:45 AM. Please come to the Hospitality tent to register before setting up and get your space assignment. You will receive a packet with important information. You will be able to park near your space to unload but your vehicle must be removed to the parking lot before the show.
Friday Evening: An artist reception will be held at the Kane Memorial Chapel located at 30 Chestnut Street (just across a block away from the park, across Rt66) from 6 to 8 PM. Please plan to attend as there will be great food, wine and time to spend with fellow artists and members of the Art in the Wilds team.
Display: A white tent with four sides must be provided by the artist. It will be securely attached to the ground in case of unexpected high winds.
Parking: Free parking nearby. The parking lot is provided for the artists so that patrons can use the spots on the street.
Security: Security guards will patrol 24 hours a day beginning on Friday at 3 PM and ending on Sunday at 6 PM. However, Art in the Wilds assumes no responsibility for loss or damage.
Hospitality Tent: Free bottles of water will be available all day on Saturday and Sunday. Area information including a book of local restaurants and menus, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit will be there as well.
Food and Drink: Food vendors will be on site and a free breakfast beginning at 8 AM at the Elks Club across the street will be available for each artist and one assistant each morning.
Pets/Smoking/Alcohol: Kane Borough prohibits pets, smoking and alcohol in Evergreen Park.
Our research has indicated that both artists and patrons appreciate a show with high quality work. Therefore, entries will be juried and the rules of the show will be strictly enforced.
Only original hand-made works are accepted. Commercially or mass-produced items are not eligible. There will be no buy/sell items in the show.
Other items not accepted include items made from kits, commercial molds, logos or patterns, mass-produced items and work on mass-produced items, dried florals, calendars, shells, soaps and edible items. Art in the Wilds has the right to exclude items which are deemed commercial or do not conform to the committee’s standard for creativity, originality or are inappropriate for family viewing.
Only items consistent with those represented by entry photos are accepted. Artists may sell works in different categories provided each category was submitted and accepted.
Acceptance into this year’s show does not mean automatic acceptance each year. Artists must be juried annually except for the prior year's Best of Show awardees.
The artist whose work has been accepted must be present for the whole show from 10 AM until 5 PM on Saturday and 10 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. There are no stand-ins or artist representatives permitted.
Each artist is responsible for the collection and payment of the 6% PA sales tax.
All artists are encouraged to collect zip codes and prices of their sales to help us best promote the show but no artist name on the sheet will be required.
Submission of these accepted entry photos constitutes the artist’s permission for their use in general publicity and show marketing.
Reproductions of the artist’s work may be displayed for sale if they are archival, high quality, limited editions.
Each artist is responsible for setting up, keeping the assigned area clean, and for the removal of art and displays. The area must be left clean and unharmed.
Art in the Wilds will provide security but will not be responsible for damage or loss.
Rules are subject to change.
Because education of the public is one of our goals, artists are also encouraged to interact with them and to demonstrate the making of their craft during the show. The committee has the right to exclude and/or evict from the show without refund any artist who fails to follow these rules.
The Application process includes the online application, emailed submission of photos, and payment of the fees.
All artist applications are submitted online for the 2019 show.
For jury selection, send seven high quality photos that tell your story as an artist and present your best case to the jurors. Send five photos of your most current artwork, one photo of yourself working in studio or workshop, and one of your booth. Since we are using a blind jury process we ask that you do not include your name or logo in any of the photos. If your name or signature is visible it will be blocked out in the photos before they are sent to the jury.
Use your images to tell your creative story. You may want to include in your five artwork photos one of a collection of similar pieces and one of a detail shot, close up so that jurors can see your fine craftsmanship.
Note: The quality of your photos are an indication of your professionalism.
Please format your photos as JPEGs, 4” x 6” with a resolution of between 72 and 150 px and send to firstname.lastname@example.org
If you are selected for the show you may be asked to submit photos at a higher resolution (300+ dpi) for publicity purposes, if needed.
NOTE: Jurors expect to see new, fresh images from every applicant, including returning artists, representing your most current work.
Share your story! Why do you create? What inspires you? How is your artwork unique? These statements help jurors with their decisions. Do not include your name, business name, logo or other identifiers. 200 words or less.
Describe your creative process. How do you work? Do you use unique tools, mediums, or techniques? Describe your process from idea or inspiration to gallery ready work. Do you make your art completely by yourself or do you have someone else assist you? Please explain briefly. 200 words or less.
If accepted, your Artist Statement and Artist’s Process (as you write them) will become your artist profile for Art in the Wilds show programs along with your two photos as mentioned above. 40,000 programs are printed and widely distributed. (see the 2018 Show Program).
Two separate checks made payable to: "Art in the Wilds" must be sent to: Art in the Wilds, 214 Chemical Works Rd. Kane, PA 16735 and are also due by March 4.
