Fourth-Annual “Art in the Wilds” Show Fast Approaching
May 7, 2010 - The fourth-annual “Art in the Wilds” fine arts show, featuring juried works of art, will be held June 26-27, 2010 in Kane, Pennsylvania. This year, 32 artists who live in Kane and the surrounding areas, and as far away as New York, Virginia, Florida, Colorado and Michigan will share their creations. The jury committee is excited to announce that 22 of the artists are returning and 10 are new to the show. Artists will showcase varied media such as painting, jewelry, clay, leather, fiber, wood-working, stained glass, photography and metal sculpture.
With continued positive feedback from the artists, the planning committee is dedicated to enhancing the show each year for both the artists and visitors. In a recent Facebook post from Sandy Askey-Adams, a past show participant, she said “ Having visited Kane, Pa. and participating in the art show held there in the park, I can say that there is a huge smiley face hanging over the whole town of Kane. Kane is a town that must have some of the nicest, warmest, friendliest people in the U.S. Plus, it is a gorgeous area for artists to visit for continuous inspiration. The landscape in that area is breathtaking!!! I have done many paintings of the area and because of the beauty of that area, those paintings have received awards in national art competitions.”
The outdoor art show will run for two days, Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27, in picturesque Evergreen Park from 10AM-5PM each day. The all-volunteer Art in the Wilds committee has been busy with event preparations ranging from accepting artist applications, planning of marketing activities, selecting food vendors, and other event logistics.
Over the past three years the show has grown from 3,000 visitors to more than 4,000. The planning committee expects to attract 4,500 visitors this year, with over 60% of the Art in the Wilds budget going into advertising. Individuals looking for great gift ideas for Mother’s and Father’s Day are encouraged to consider Art in the Wilds Purchase Awards that can be redeemed with any artists during the show. Purchase awards are available in $20 increments and can be purchased at the Kane Chamber of Commerce, Photo and Sound Shoppe or by calling 814.837.7167.
The 2010 show is funded by critical corporate and individual sponsors. Supplemental grant funding has been secured also from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a State agency through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, and the Kane Community Development Foundation.
The show is produced by an all-volunteer committee, and in partnership with the Allegheny National Forest Vacation Bureau, Artworks at the Depot, Elk County Council on the Arts, the Kane Area Revitalization Enterprise (KARE), Kane Chamber of Commerce, Lumber Heritage Region through DCNR, PA Route 6 Artisan Trails, and the Pennsylvania Wilds. Food vendors will be on hand at the event, parking and admission is free.
The Art in the Wilds’ mission is to expand the role of the arts in our rural communities, to promote economic development and to provide a platform for artists to display and sell their works.
