Deadline Approaching for Artist Applications to Art in the Wilds 2009

February 12, 2009 - Planning is currently underway for the third annual Art in the Wilds, an outdoor juried fine arts show to be held June 27-28, 2009 in Kane, Pennsylvania.

The Art in the Wilds show is one of the only juried art shows ever produced in McKean County. To be accepted as a vendor in a juried art show, artists must submit works for scoring to a confidential ‘jury’ of art experts.

All artists must be juried for acceptance into the show. The deadline for artists to apply is March 1, 2009. Notification of acceptances and additional show information will be sent out by March 15, 2009. Artist applicants must send three high quality photos or digital images of recent work and one photo of their display. Artists must also provide a white tent with 4 sides that can be secured at night. Art in the Wilds accepts fine art, high quality fine craft, limited or handmade prints, offset lithograph prints, and photography. Juried art shows therefore offer a very high quality of original art, among a diverse variety of media. Art in the Wilds offered art for sale ranging from acrylics and oils, to watercolors, drawing/pastels, metal, glass, clay/porcelain, photography, fabric/fiber, wood, leather and jewelry.

The 2008 Art in the Wilds attracted over 3,500 visitors who purchased more than 175 separate original art pieces. The planning committee expects to attract 4,000 visitors this year, with over 60% of the Art in the Wilds budget going into advertising.

What our artists have to say:

“Best hospitality ever!” Dianna (Wallace) Soisson, Pastels 2007 & 2008 Shows

“Once again this show was awesome and you should pat yourself on your back for another job very well done. Your committee should be congratulated for not only bringing friendly folks out, but folks that buy as well.” Yasmin Brown, jewelry maker 2007 & 2008 Shows
"I have been doing art shows for over 24 years, and I can honestly say this one of the best, if not the best, fine art show I have done. This show is truly a gem. My sales have been fantastic, and here I am in the middle of the Pennsylvania Wilds." - Pamela Bartl, Handmade Fiber Clothing, 2007 & 2008 Shows
"Kane could very well be one of the friendliest towns in America.” - Artist Ross Shourds, wood-worker and painter, 2007 Show

The Art in the Wilds’ mission is to expand the role of the arts in our rural communities, to promote economic development and to provide a platform for artists to display and sell their works.
