Stacie Johnson-LeskeCeramic Pottery, Ridgway PA
Growing up, I was mesmerized by dance. Awed by the colorful costumes, brilliant lights, and dazzling sets.
As a ceramic artist, I am inspired by and employ many lessons acquired from training for a career as a ballerina. For me, the clay is the dancer’s body. It appears delicate but has great strength and elasticity. As my “dancer” pirouettes on the wheel, it expands and contracts into elegant forms. I am the music, using the rhythm of the spinning wheel to encourage fanciful shapes to emerge from the clay. Once complete, the form is costumed in richly colored glazes enhancing the shape and drawing the viewer’s eyes. When holding a piece of my pottery in your hand you are holding a small piece of my childhood. |
