While I have called Kane home for 21 years, I did not grow up here. Like many of our visitors, I found trekking into the woodlands to locate this charming, quiet community is an adventure away from a more suburban or even urban lifestyle. Visiting during summer vacations and leaving Connecticut behind was incredibly cathartic in a way I didn't fully appreciate as a kid.

That said, I still vividly recall being wowed by just how out of the way Kane is. While small, it is a hub smack in the middle of the Alleghany National Forest and it takes a good leisure drive to reach larger towns in any direction.

For all of you looking to breathe in some fresh air and have all the space you could want next weekend, I'm here for you! Finding a place to stay over can be a little daunting when there aren't three Motel 6's around the corner. My number one suggestion is to book a place off of Airbnb. Kane has some fantastic hosts with places right in the middle of town or even further into the woods if you REALLY want to get away and relax.

If you'd rather just grab a room somewhere, try out the Kane Manor Inn or Spoonwood Inn, both located within a very short driving distance or a longer stroll to Evergreen Park. Or, if you're looking for some RV and/or camping areas, there are plenty to choose from. I suggest the Twin Lakes Recreation Area or Red Bridge Camping Area. Twin Lakes has access to some fantastic trails while Red Bridge is ideal for fishing, kayaking, canoeing or just hanging out and watching the Osprey at their nest!

No matter how you want to stay while you're visiting us at Art in the Wilds, Kane has plenty of options to choose from. Pack up the family and come enjoy what might be your new home away from home!
